Dating of ancient books and scripture.

Hi guys - I want to find out how they/we can date ancient writings. I am particularly interested in early Christian stuff and found www.earlychristianwritings.com to be an AMAZING collection of early X-ian literature. But what techniques do they use to date it? Carbon dating? References to other lit...

Dr. Borde and Acheulean/Oldowan Tools in North America?!

I was rather flabbergasted to see who is possibly just a nut on allafrica.org in the comments section on the Tanzania footprints story, claim that some Dr. Borde from Indiana found 300,000 to 1000000 year old artifacts in North America - Anyone heard of this? A quick google found nothing. Call me cr...

Not that I'm exactly a scholar - I dropped out in grade ten - but yeah, this is some interesting stu...

Well, I'm really interested in the Near/Mid Eastern stuff, but human evolution and North American archaeology have been grabbing my interest too. Learn a new language, you say? Is there anywhere to do that online? There are field schools here in Canada that I will do anything to attend! I can't wait...

Skills required for archaeologists?

Hi guys - I am currently pursuing a high school diploma, and after that I plan to study archaeology. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what skills I should be working on in the meantime to become an archaeologist?

Thanks guys.

"Copper Scroll" of Dead Sea Scroll's archaeologica

Hi there - just wondering. I've been reading a bit about the famed Copper Scroll, and the biggest question on my mind was what was the archaeological context it was found in? If it was somewhat hidden, maybe there is something to this, right? Couldn't stop thinking about it and I've been searching t...

I've heard of miracles too

I can understand the idea of miracles. I guess its just because I have yet to experience one. But I beleive in a Higher Power, and noone can deny things like faith healings, for example.... they happen. But I thought that volcano idea was pretty good. kbs2244, I'm wondering what time you think the p...

Ten biblical "plagues" in Egypt/Thera volcano?

I've been reading a book called "The Bible is History" by Ian Wilson. In it he posits the idea that a volcano just off of Crete (on an island called Thera caused the biblical plagues of Egypt. In an eruption (I think around 1500 BC) a great ash cloud headed southwest to Egypt and caused all the dist...
