This Might Upset a Few Applecarts

The genetic evidence of Lewis’ research in South America suggests the continent was populated first from the east to the west.

Lewis said this goes against the more common idea that North America was populated first in the western coastal regions, with people then migrating to South America and populating the continent from west to east.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

"Lewis said this goes against the more common idea that North America was populated first in
the western coastal regions, with people then migrating to South America and populating the continent from west to east."

When did this become "the more common idea?"

I thought the "common" idea was they went from the Bering crossing, through the Yukon River valley to the other side of the mountains and then walked south across the plains.
Then they walked the east coast of Mexico to the north and east cost of SA.

Has the consensuses changed?

Prof Lewis obviously didn't see NatGeo's program on "The Human Family Tree." According to them they have it all figured out.

Lewis' point is that there's usually greater diversity in geographical areas of origin for a founding population.

So, we'd expect to see the greatest genetic diversity in the northwest of North America, instead of in South America. The implication is that people went to the eastern coast of South America first, instead of through North America first.

I wonder how it compares with Wallace's mtDNA studies of diversity in founding populations of America.

And, if Lewis is right, how did people get to the eastern coast of South America?

You mean you had your doubts. I thought I've been here long enough for you to know me a little, since we seem to agree on many things.

I was only referring to that particular show, darlin'!

Talk about a one-sided discussion!

I just re-read this story.
Did anyone notice the last few sentences?

Are we ready to check our DNA to see if we should worry about the Swine Flu?

Is swine flu associated with any particular genetic type?

A chilling thought on that topic.

A few years back there was quite a stir about an American think tank called the PNAC (Project for a New American Century). In September, 2000, they produced a report (Rebuilding America’s Defenses) that used to be available in full online, but now all links to it contain only the intro pages. On the subject of US preparation for wars of the future, that report said:

“And advanced forms of biological warfare that can target specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool"

That comparison has been made before.

These guys were members of Bush's administration. Cheney was a co-founder.

They're still around and no doubt waiting for a comeback.

Min

I'd also like to know who funded the guy's research.
