The BBC 'Horizon' program "Atlantis Rising"
Made in 1999 and broadcast in 2000, the BBC's flagship science program (which is now in its 41st year) devoted a program to the subject of Atlantis, and in particular, the theories of Graham Hancock.

Graham Hancock subsequently complained to the Broadcasting Standards Commission complaining of unfairness and bias in the way his theories were treated. The full adjudication noted the following:

The programme had created the impression that he (Graham Hancock) was an intellectual fraudster who had put forward half baked theories and ideas in bad faith, and that he was incompetent to defend his own arguments.

That included the Nile delta, I haven't the time to follow this but as you are already on it you might want to, but some of what went on whilst I was on this problem was the fact that the Nile's channels into the Med indicated that the sea levels in the past may have been 150ft lower than now. The way some of the channels were formed seemed to indicate that the level of the Med may have dropped very suddenly at some time in the past according to our tame geo. That's all I can tell you, hope it's of some help.

We've talked about the geography of the ice age world a lot here. We know that sea levels were 400 ft. lower, but that doesn't tell us everything. The depth of the sea floor in the Med. is a mixed bag. Malta for instance is on a seamount like Cyprus. The floor of the Aegean on the other hand is part of the European continental shelf.

How fast did the water rise? Good question I ask. The temperatures rose rapidly but then glaciers don't melt overnight. However, as the temperature of sea water rose, it's volume would expand. That would happen relatively suddenly. But how much volume? I don't know.

However, as the temperature of sea water rose, it's volume would expand. That would happen relatively suddenly. But how much volume? I don't know.

Beagle, I don't think the expansion of water due to temperature would be significant. The expansion from 0 to say 20 degrees C. is less than 1%. And the average temperature of the worlds oceans is far lower than 20 (I would think) considering it generally only heats up near the surface.
And of course melting ice does not contribute to the rise unless the ice was on the land.

The Atlantic Ocean Monk has a average depth in excess of 10000ft! Obviously on that basis, 1% is a hell of a lot!
I think there must some more math in there somewhere.

Digit, what is the depth that heats up? Maybe a 100ft tops. The depths are very cold. And if I do my math correctly we are talking far less than 1%, not nearly 1%. I'm not stepping on toes, just suggesting that thermal expansion is not the answer to why the level of the mediterranean or atlantic oceans rose significantly.

heres the definition of that again which you keep seeming to forget

any of various methods, theories, or systems, as astrology, psychokinesis, or clairvoyance, considered as having no scientific basis.

so tell me again
what scientific qualifications does he have in this area
and why is he claiming that scientists the world over are all involved in a giant cover up
thats not just archaeologists anymore is it
you also have to include climatologists
astronomers
egyptologists
geographers
meteorologists
and just about every other branch of science that Hancock sticks his unqualified toe into
all conspiring together as they do thei underpaid jobs just working together trying to stop Hancock from m aking another million from booksales to a gullible readership

now that is the truth
and you know it

your problem is that you've been believing this crap so long that to back out now and admit you were wrong would leave you open to ridicule of immense proportions

it would however have the benefit of setting your minds free from the self imposed chains you've placed them in
